![]() Even if you think that they’re interesting duds - and they are, which is why I’m not “spoiling” the nature of their dud-ness - at a very early point, Bilton the filmmaker has to start compensating for how his three-pronged narrative suddenly has only one prong. ![]() ![]() And that’s before we get into purchasing social engagements.Ī lot of the games Bilton is playing with his three protégés are fun, but they can’t rival the games he’s playing with the audience to obscure what is manifestly and instantly clear: that he chose three people for his “social experiment” and two of them are duds. Bilton teaches them shortcuts, like how a toilet seat and a clip art background can make it appear that you’re flying first-class or how pats of butter coated in cocoa powder can look like a fancy chocolate for a decadent picture. #Fake famous seriesThere’s a lot of disingenuousness afoot in Fake Famous a lot of effort and a fair amount of money is poured into a “social experiment” in which the conclusions include the shocking revelation that if you take an attractive, likable young blonde with no reservations about corner-cutting, buy her tens of thousands of followers and post lots of pictures of her in a bathing suit, she very well might become “famous” enough to be sent free lip balm.Īs in any good season of America’s Next Top Model - Tyra would be proud of Dominique’s ability to “smize” - all three contenders get makeovers and are put through a series of glossy photoshoots. With training, tricks-of-the-trade and deceitful shortcuts-of-the-trade, Bilton hopes to turn these three wannabes into social media supernovas, for better or worse. There are also celebrities who use their hotel aliases as an opportunity for a joke and nothing more. That, and I mostly don’t mean it pejoratively, is what Fake Famous is.īilton, who has spent a career covering tech for publications including Vanity Fair (Graydon Carter is an executive producer here) and The New York Times, begins the series with a casting call in Los Angeles with the enticing lure, “Do you want to be famous?” They received 4,000 applicants (which seems low) and, after a series of auditions, chose three subjects with the criteria mainly that they had to be generally aspiring influencers with underwhelming follower counts, and that they had no single talent that was likely to earn them recognition under other circumstances. But, then again, maybe there’s not all that much depth to these fake names. ![]() Or someone who uses a loved one’s name may want to keep their family close while on the road. For example, a celebrity who names himself after a favorite character may identify deeply with certain personality traits. But that doesn't make the names any less telling. I should add that you can buy the kites without radio gear if you prefer in fact, you can purchase the kites by themselves, access plenty of parts and buy extra power units. The included mating micro receiver did an outstanding job, and I never had any signal-related issues even when I flew farther away from myself. The included 2.4GHz radio is lightweight and easy to use and performed very well. There is no string connecting you and the model, and since there are no control surfaces, the two included servos actuate the motor/prop in both the yaw and pitch axis, providing positive control. This power system utilizes vector-thrust maneuvering and delivers all of the control and power needed for flight. The power system is truly unique it is made specifically to fit any and all of the kites via special mounts located on their frames. An extra prop and a LiPo battery charger are added as is another well-made carrying case for the aforementioned items. And when you buy the RTF (ready to fly) kit, in addition to the power pod/motor/ ESC, you also get a 2.4GHz transmitter, receiver and 3-cell LiPo battery pack. #Connection between kite and kite liberator install#Install the company’s brushless-powered pod unit into its specified location, plug in the battery, and you are ready to fly. You will only need to hook some of the rigging string up to and from various points and insert carbon tubes into pre-sewn pockets. Very little work is required to get any one of them in the air, and “building” any one merely takes a few minutes. Helpful illustrations and text provide everything you’ll need to put these flying models together. Once you unzip one of these well-made cases, you will find a short instruction guide, which outlines that particular kite’s assembly process. These are more than convenient and small enough to fit within any vehicle. Transporting the Vector Kites is a cinch owing to the fact that they all arrive inside zip-up carrying cases. The way that these kites are constructed makes them extremely resilient, and a beginner could easily build and fly them. The three designs sent for review are the V-Wing Box, the Canard and the Pyramid Racer, all of which are truly unique-looking and appear well sized. High-quality carbon-fiber tubing is used throughout, and 3/4-ounce Ripstop nylon covers these frames in very easy-to-see color schemes. This vector-thrust control system is ideal, as these kites (like most) have no moving control surfaces. These super cool-looking, radio-controlled flying kites feature a power system that uses the propeller’s direction to maneuver. ![]() If you want to fly something unique at your local park other than a tiny/micro model airplane, or you do not want to go through the routine of transporting/loading/unloading/setting up your AMA field-size model, there is a new alternative from Premier RC called Vector Kites. How about an RC kite? Kiting is an interesting concept in itself, and when it is windy outside, many folks will break out their stunt kite or a simple plastic and wood getup, the one with a favorite cartoon character bought at the toy store. If you can dream it up, someone will make it fly. From giant-scale to micro planes and helicopters, birds (or ornithopters), lawn mowers, cars and boats, all have been seen flying in the air. “Flying things come in all shapes and sizes,” and as a model aircraft reviewer, I can tell you that statement is beyond true. I had predicted that Maddie would die, but I didn’t imagine it would happen the way it did and I’m glad for that. Still, it seemed like Maddie always held that guilt inside, and her sacrifice was her way of finally paying back that debt. And yet, without the abuse from his dad, Michael would not have become the man he was. Throughout the series, Maddie has apologized over and over again for not defending Michael from his father when he was a little boy. Oh man, just thinking about what Madeline (Sharon Gless) did for her son, her grandson and the rest of her makeshift family is making me tear up as I’m typing this. Another possible option I saw was to have Michael sacrifice himself for the rest of the team, but it wasn’t him who got that honor. I also loved that, as soon as they saw where his head was at, all of them put the kibosh on his death wish, but quick. There were no hard feelings, no guilt trips - everyone just got back to work. It was fantastic to see how quickly Michael’s team rallied behind him as soon as he went back into their midst. Burn Notice Season 7 Episode 10 recap: Will Michael ever come back? > Of course he wanted to do it by himself, but his team wouldn’t let him get away with it. Michael came to the conclusion that the only way to be safe was to capture James themselves. Strong (Jack Coleman), understandably disappointed to lose out on James, set the entire CIA and local law enforcement on them all and they had to run from James’ (John Pyper-Ferguson) people as well as the law. Once Michael decided to go back to the good side, he and the rest of his team faced some of their biggest challenges yet. In Ireland, Michael and Fi sat in front of a fire with Charlie asleep on Michael’s lap.Sam and Jesse stood over the grave and remarked that their friends missed a great funeral, then speculated where Michael and Fi were, before they deciding to start work on a new job together. The CIA freed Sam and Jesse and buried Michael and Fi as heroes.Sam got out with the disk, but Michael and were Fi didn’t come out of the building. They tried to escape but he set off a bomb. Maddie decided to sacrifice herself to let Jesse and Charlie get away. While doing the mission, James’ men surrounded Maddie, Charlie and Jesse. ![]() ![]() Geometry sourceĪ geometry source is an instance of the SCNGeometrySource class. If you want to build a custom geometry programmatically, you can use the init(sources:elements:) method and provide the geometry sources and geometry elements. Multiple nodes can reference the same geometry object, allowing it to appear at different positions in a scene. You can also use methods in the SCNShadable protocol to add custom GLSL or Metal shaders that alter SceneKit’s rendering of a geometry. For example, you can use an SCNMorpher or SCNSkinner object to deform a geometry’s surface, or run animations created in an external 3D authoring tool and loaded from a scene file. In general, the vertexes associated with a geometry are immutable, but SceneKit provides several ways to modify (animate) them. The surface of a geometry can be obtained connecting together a huge collection of 3D points (vertexes) using triangles. You can also create geometries from vertex data. Geometries can be created by using and customizing SceneKit’s built-in primitive shapes ( SCNBox, SCNSphere, SCNCone, etc.) as I highlighted in the previous post. This tool is really easy to learn and exports to different 3D file formats and one of them is Collada (DAE) very popular for iOS and mobile platforms. I personally use Cheetah3D by MW3D-Solutions. So, if you want to build complex 3D models for your apps, the best approach is to use Cinema4D, Maya, Modo, and so on. The reason for that is that SceneKit is not really a 3D modeling tool. The most common approach is to load the geometry from a scene file created using external 3D authoring tools. SceneKit allows to create a geometry in different ways. You position and orient a geometry in a scene by attaching it to an instance of an SCNNode and using the position and the orientation of the node. As shown in Part I of this tutorial, SceneKit provides developers with some basic 3D shapes, such as boxes, spheres, cones, planes, and more. GeometryĪn SCNGeometry object provides the visible part of a node. ![]() The information provided in this post and the previous one is relevant if you are building ARKit applications, so I suggest you to review the concepts highlighted in Part I and check the new topics provided here. Render metals in cheetah3d how to#In this second part tutorial, we are going to see how to handle the appearance of a node. In a previous tutorial, I highlighted some of the basic classes you can use to create and render a 3D scene and add 3D objects to the scene using the builtin shapes. OK, Maybe the blade is a little too large, but OK for a first try.Let’s continue to look at the functionalities and APIs offered by SceneKit. So, a quick change, remake the blade using a cylinder, we get this result instead: Now for the handle, we make a cylinder, rotate it and size it.įor the handle, we render a nice leather texture in FilterForge.Īnd here it is, but as you see, the flat blade didn’t come out so well in the renderer. Using the boolean operation to remove the toruses from the hilt piece will give us a nice decorative line. Now, we create a torus, but change the values so it becomes square and sharp instead of soft and round. We shape it like this, set a low polygon count, then use the catmul subdivision to give it this smooth shape. Now, time for the hilt, ah, the familiar cube we all know and love. Now, we use a modification tool to shape the tip. We size it like this, and then we extrude it.Īfter extruding the blade, it looks like above. We do not start with a cube today, but with a multi-side polygon frame, that we set to 4 sides. It got some nice stuff, like nice metal textures built in, a new Bend modification and a bunch of other stuff. So, I’ve got a secret to share, I’ve upgraded to Cheetah3D 5.0. ![]() ![]() McIntyre and McIntosh record live with Chuck Berry at The Lanchester Arts Festival. They find Robin Turner (via Robert Stigwood) who in turn persuades film actor Stanley Baker to finance the project. Gorrie books studio time in Denmark Street Studios and with the Dundee Horns, McIntyre and McIntosh, record three original songs the results are such that they immediately decide to form the band and look for management. Gorrie & McIntyre have two albums with RCA as Forever More, Stuart is with The Dream Police, Duncan and Ball with Mike Rosen on trumpet (dubbed 'The Dundee Horns' by Maggie Bell), are now in demand as a horn section.Ĭollectively they become the unofficial house band at Island Studios working individually and/or together on various sessions, most notably Johnny Nash's 'I Can See Clearly Now'. London being the only UK city in which to secure a recording contract, all future AWB members are now there working and recording McIntosh, who with the Senate, had backed Ben E. Stuart leaves to form Dream Police in Glasgow They are joined briefly by Hamish Stuart, change the name to ‘Hopscotch’ and land a recording deal with United Artists releasing 2 singles. The reaction to their own set however, gives Gorrie the idea that with the right line-up, U.S. Gorrie joins McIntyre in the Scots of St James, who work mostly backing visiting American soul artists, they tour Germany playing clubs and US military bases. Regulars include Maggie Bell, Frankie Miller, Jimmy Dewar, and Alex Ligertwood. Onnie McIntyre and Hamish Stuart gig and frequent The Picasso Club, a live music, after-hours R&B haven where musicians can try out new material, jam, hangout and/or dance to the best soul tracks imported directly from Atlantic, Stax, Motown etc. Regulars included Dundee Art College buddies Molly Duncan and Roger Ball on horns, Jim Mullen on double bass (yes, that Jim Mullen!) and a startling visit from a young Robbie McIntosh on drums. The musical energy and trademark sound are remarkably true to the original, and with constant revisitations and re-workings of AWB's, and others' classics in the mix, it is no surprise that the Average White Band is now a multi - generational attraction, and a perennial fixture with so many of the top music venues.Īlan Gorrie co-founds the ‘Blue Workshop’ as a place for musicians to interchange line-ups and explore the jazzier side of R&B. The current lineup of the band, with noted US musicians alongside founding members Alan Gorrie and Onnie McIntyre, continues to delight audiences and critics alike in its wide - ranging touring. Many more tunes, such as 'Cloudy', 'A Love Of Your Own' and 'Nothing You Can Do' - amongst many others- stand alongside some of the finest soul 'album tracks' ever recorded. Whilst a good number of cuts - 'Cut The Cake' and 'Let's Go 'Round Again' to name but two - attracted chart action as hit singles, many other album tracks, like 'Schoolboy Crush' and 'Person to Person' became much sampled and turn-tabled 'rare' grooves. Somewhat incongruously, given their Scottish roots, the six piece took the influences of their R&B heroes - people like Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Donny Hathaway and others - and developed their own 'authentic' sound which was eagerly adopted by black audiences in the US and elsewhere. Though perhaps best known for their timeless instrumental mega-hit 'Pick Up the Pieces' the band's strength actually lay in their consistently accomplished song-writing, stretching across several gold selling albums and multi- grammy nominations for the legendary Atlantic Records. ![]() Cliff Lyons - Alto sax, keyboards, vocalsįred "Freddy V" Vigdor - Tenor Sax, keyboards, vocalsĪWB are widely regarded as one of the best soul and funk bands in the history of music. ![]() |
